On November 25, we conducted a KickOff meeting to discuss the development of a future ocean biogeochemistry component for natESM.
Judith Hauck presented the meeting notes on the prior in-person OBGC workshop and its goal towards a sustainable community-oriented way to develop and maintain the natESM model. We are looking for open development and shared development goals. The working group objectives were presented and opened for discussion, as was the meeting agenda. There were no objections.
Main outcomes
- Technical exploration is not yet addressed. It is a challenge to bring knowledge on technical requirements and scientific needs together and identify the best way forward. Interactions between RSEs and scientists are needed.
- We established this working group focusing on the implementation of theocean biogeochemistry component and configurations. If you are interested in participating, please contact Judith Hauck or Carsten Lemmen or contact us in the Mattermost channel.
- We will organize the next workshop for early February (component discusssion) and March 2026 (roadmap and technical options).
- We will shortly present the working group on the Community Workshop 2026
Next steps
We engaged in a lively discussion about both models and the broader challenges. Next steps for the working group will be:
- finding ocean biogeochemistry models, compare and discuss about
- discussion of objectives of coding and configurations
- draft roadmap
- draft sprint proposal
