Topics covered in this course include:

  • computational resources (CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs) available at Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC²)
  • how to apply for computational resources
  • access the computer cluster systems at PC²
  • run scientific programs via workload managers
  • basic usage of environment modules, MPI, OpenMP, and software containers

This course includes a hands-on session on the computer cluster systems at PC².

Please note:

  1. This course assumes basic knowledge of the Linux shell. We provide a short online selftest. In case you have no experience with Linux, we recommend that you attend our next Linux Introduction Course.
  2. For the hands-on session of the course the participants should bring their own laptops. No special operating system is required. You can participate with Windows, macOS or some Linux-distribution. Please make sure that the wireless connection of your laptop works (for example with eduroam). In case you don't have access to eduroam, we can provide additional wireless network connection during the course.
  3. This course will be organized online by using the teaching system at Paderborn University. Once your registration has been confirmed, more detailed information will be available.

This course is free of cost for members of German universities or publicly-funded research institutions in Germany.
